ETSU cruises past Detroit Mercy and Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The ETSU offense came to life in day two of the Wingate by Wyndham Invitational, pouring in 14 runs in two games. The Bucs earned victories over Detroit Mercy (2-1) and host Charleston Southern (12-0) to improve to 6-0-2 on the season, becoming the only unbeaten team left in the Southern Conference.

Game 1: ETSU 2, Detroit Mercy 1
The Bucs scored first in the top half of the second inning as Jordan Durbin (Mechanicsville, Va.) laced an RBI single to right center field, bringing home Malloree Schurr (Montgomery, Texas) for the early 1-0 lead.

After Detroit Mercy evened the score in the third inning, both offenses accounted for one hit apiece over the next two frames. ETSU reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning as Nikki Grupp (Jacksonville, Fla.) belted her second home run of the season, a solo shot to deep center field for the 2-1 lead.

The Titans threatened to equalize the game in the bottom half of the seventh inning following an ETSU error that put runners on the corners with two away. However, Taylor Boling (Jasper, Ga.) induced a harmless groundout to second base to clinch the win, her first collegiate victory.
