BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (Feb. 23, 2019) – For the second consecutive day, the ETSU Softball Team split a doubleheader in Boiling Springs, N.C. This time, the Bucs dominated in the first game with a 15-6 victory over St. Francis (PA), avenging a 16-10 loss to the Red Flash on Friday afternoon. With the split, ETSU improved to 8-3-2 on the season, including 2-2 this weekend.
Game 1: ETSU 15, St. Francis (PA) 6
It has been the story of the season thus far that the Bucs score early and score often and Saturday lived up to the reputation as ETSU plated eight runs in the first two innings in game one of the doubleheader. Five of the runs came in the first inning off two long balls by the Bucs, including Nikki Grupp’s (Jacksonville, Fla.) second home run in as many games. Kylie Toler (Bradenton, Fla.) also jumped on the home run wagon with her first blast of the season, a two-run shot to left field. ETSU put the run rule in affect in the following inning, plating three runs on two hits and displaying patience at the plate with back-to-back bases-loaded walks.
After an RBI double by Malloree Schurr (Montgomery, Texas) in the third inning, ETSU tallied six more runs in the bottom of the fourth for the 15-0 advantage. Lauren Lee (Cleveland, Tenn.) and Tiffany Laughren (Erwin, Tenn.) plated two runs apiece with a single (Lee) and double (Laughren).
St. Francis would not go away quietly however, scoring six runs in the top of the fifth and leaving two stranded at second and third. The Red Flash scored the six runs on four hits but ran into MacKenzie Dyson (Hanahan, S.C.) who struck out the final better to limit any further damage

Game 2: Bowling Green 3, ETSU 0
The Falcons were gifted two unanswered runs in the first inning and that is all they needed to secure the win. Bowling Green scored the two runs on one hit and one ETSU error for the early 2-0 advantage. The Falcons added an insurance run in the sixth inning with an RBI double.
The Bucs threatened to score in the second inning when Grupp led off with a single and then later stood at third with only one out. However, ETSU could not capitalize, striking out and popping out to end the threat. Grupp’s base knock turned out to be the only base hit for the Bucs in the second game as ETSU only mustered one more base runner via the walk in the sixth inning.
