Malloree Schurr claims first-ever SoCon Player of the Month

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 5, 2019) – For the first time in her collegiate career, Malloree Schurr (Montgomery, Texas) has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Month for the month of February. The conference office announced the award this morning. Schurr is the first ETSU Buc to take home SoCon Player of the Month since Tiffany Laughren (Erwin, Tenn.) did so in 2017 in the month of April. Laughren captured two player of the month honors and was joined by teammate Danielle Knoetze (San Diego, Calif.) in a clean sweep of the SoCon hardware that season.

Schurr displayed a dominating month at the dish in February, concluding the month with a SoCon-leading .413 batting average. The Texas native hit safely 19 times, including five doubles, three triples and two home runs. Schurr also finished the month of February with a perfect 6-of-6 in stolen bases.

The redshirt senior is also getting the job done defensively, recording 28 put outs in February without committing an error.

On the season, Schurr leads the SoCon in RBIs (25), triples (4) and total bases (41). Her 25 runs batted in is a single-season, career-best for the Texas native. Her previous season-high was eight set in 2016. Schurr is currently tied for second in hits with 22 and is also second in doubles (5) and third in stolen bases (7). The redshirt-senior is now batting .379, ranking sixth in the SoCon, while leading the Bucs.

Schurr and the rest of the Bucs (10-5-2) will be back in action on March 6 when they travel south to Spartanburg, S.C. for a doubleheader against USC Upstate beginning at 2:30 p.m.
