JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 25, 2019) – For the first time since rejoining the Southern Conference for the 2015 season, an ETSU Buccaneer freshman was named as the SoCon Player of the Week. Kasidy Dunn (Friendsville, Tenn.) claimed the weekly award as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Dunn entered the weekend with eight career at bats and zero hits. All of that changed in Cullowhee, N.C. as the freshman exploded for a 4-for-6 weekend with five RBIs. Dunn entered the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader in the sixth inning as a defensive substitution at second base. The Bucs rallied from down three in the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5 with Dunn coming to the plate. The Tennessee native locked in on a pitch, delivering the go-ahead two-run blast over the left field fence for her first base hit and home run of her collegiate career. Dunn’s two-run blast proved to be enough as ETSU fended off WCU in the first game. Dunn earned the start in game two, finishing 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of RBI singles to help the Bucs finish with an 11-9 victory over the Catamounts. The freshman was back at it again on Sunday, finishing 1-of-2 at the plate with the game-winning RBI double in the fifth inning.
Dunn finished 4-of-6 at the plate this weekend with all four hits resulting in RBIs. The Tennessee native collected her first double, first home run and first multi-hit game. Dunn finished the weekend with a .750 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage.
Dunn and the Bucs (16-11-2) will be back in action on Wednesday, March 27 when ETSU hosts Appalachian State at Betty Basler Field at 5 p.m.
