ETSU set for tournament play in Chattanooga

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 5, 2019) – Now that the 2019 regular season has concluded, it is time for the ETSU Buccaneers to shift focus to the upcoming Southern Conference Tournament at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Bucs will open the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will kick off the festivities with a 10 a.m. showdown against fourth-seeded Mercer on Wednesday, May 8. The tournament will run from Wednesday, May 8 – Saturday, May 11.

The Bucs finished the season with a 20-25-2, including 6-11 in SoCon action. The last time the tournament was held in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Blue & Gold concluded the weekend with a new trophy and the league’s automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

UNCG claimed the top seed for the second consecutive season and will start its tournament play on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. against the winner of ETSU and Mercer. Samford was slated as the second seed and will square off against seventh-seeded Western Carolina. The final pairing will feature No. 3 seed Chattanooga against No. 6 seed Furman.

Thursday’s slate of games will begin at 10 a.m. and eventually conclude with an 8 p.m. contest. The remaining teams will compete in three games on Friday, which are scheduled for 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saturday will feature a championship game at 1 p.m., which may be followed by a 3 p.m. contest if the early game represents the first loss of the tournament for one of the teams. ESPN+ will broadcast Saturday’s action.

All games leading up to Saturday will be broadcast on the SoCon Digital Network.
