JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 12, 2019) – For the first time in her illustrious career, senior infielder Taylor Wright (Erwin, Tenn.) was named to the 2019 SoCon All-Tournament Team for her performance in the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga. The league office announced the all-tournament team late Saturday night following the conclusion of the championship game at 11 p.m. at Frost Stadium.
Wright finished the week with a .250 batting average (3-of-12) in four games played. However, the Erwin, Tenn., native made a statement with two of her three hits requiring a tape measure as she blasted a pair of home runs that quickly left the stadium. Wright’s two home runs placed her second in the tournament, just one shy of UNCG’s Marisa Sholtes (3). Wright also finished the week with three RBIs and two runs scored and got the job done defensively as well, tallying 22 putouts with zero errors.
Wright kicked off the tournament with a 2-for-3 performance in the opening game as the fifth-seeded Bucs took down No. 4 seed Mercer by the score of 5-1. The senior infielder capped off the scoring with a two-run shot to deep left field in the top of the fifth inning to provide the Blue & Gold with the 5-1 advantage.
The following day, Wright aided the Bucs in eliminating No. 2 Samford by the final score of 5-2 in eight innings. Wright finished 1-for-4 at the dish with her lone hit being a no-doubter to straight away center in the fourth inning to tie the contest at one apiece.
Wright finished the season with .276 batting average and blasted four home runs, just one shy of tying her personal single-season best set in 2018. The Tennessee native finished third on the team in RBIs (20) and led the squad in putouts (208), while also posting a phenomenal .995 fielding percentage with just one error on the season.
