Bucs drop first two games of I-75 Tournament

KENNESAW, Ga. (Feb. 25, 2022) – The opening day of the I-75 Tournament did not go the Buccaneers’ way as ETSU Softball finished 0-2 following losses to both Kennesaw State and Georgia State, falling to 4-7 on the season.

Game 1: Kennesaw State 8, ETSU 0 (6 innings)
The opening game belonged to Kennesaw State with a convincing 8-0 win in six innings. The Owls scored the first run of the game with a solo homer from Taylor Cates and they did not look back. Kennesaw State added two runs in the third, two in the fourth and then put the game away with three final runs in the sixth.

ETSU tallied just one base hit, a bloop single from ETSU freshman Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.).

The Bucs found themselves on the wrong side of the stats in game one, mustering just one hit and finishing the game with five errors.

Game 2: Georgia State 6, ETSU 2
Game two was much of the same for the Bucs, falling in a big hole early and not mustering enough offense to come back. The Panthers scored the game’s first six runs, taking a 6-0 lead heading into the top of the fourth inning.

ETSU got on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI sacrifice fly from Sara Muir (Sequatchie, Tenn.), bringing home Riley Tucker (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) from third. The Bucs tacked on one more final run in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single up the middle by Andrea Sarhatt (Knoxville, Tenn.).

After collecting one hit in game one, the Bucs finished the contest against the Panthers with four hits from three different players.

» Tucker finished the game with two hits at the dish, but also picked up her second loss in the circle after allowing six runs in 3.0 innings
» The Bucs saw a bright spot from both Sara Muir and Whitley Arnott (China Grove, N.C.) who tossed a combined 3.0 innings of relief work with two hits allowed and zero runs.
» ETSU now falls to 0-6 all-time against Georgia State.
