ETSU to visit No. 6 Virginia Tech tomorrow

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 8, 2022) – ETSU Softball announced on Tuesday evening a few schedule changes to the 2022 campaign. The Bucs will now travel to Blacksburg, Va. tomorrow to take on No. 6 Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. and will no longer play the Hokies on March 29. In addition, the Bucs’ three-game series this weekend against Miami (Ohio) is now a doubleheader to be played on Friday, Feb. 11 at Betty Basler Field beginning at 2 p.m. The final change to the schedule is that ETSU has added a second game against Appalachian State on Tuesday, April 19 when the Mountaineers visit Johnson City.

About the Bucs
The Bucs are looking to snap a nine-game losing skid on Wednesday when they travel to No. 6 Virginia Tech. ETSU is led in hitting by Kelly Warren (Mechanicsville, Va.) with a .407 batting average. Warren has seven RBIs to her credit and has stolen 11-of-15 bases. The Virginia native is two stolen bases shy of becoming the all-time stolen bases leader in ETSU history. Newcomers Riley Tucker (Mount Pleasant, N.C.) and Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) have seen their averages rise above the .280 mark with Tucker batting .292. Tucker also boasts the best ERA on the team with a 3.72 ERA.

Series History
ETSU is 1-16 all-time against the Hokies, winning the lone game on April 21, 2004 by a score of 4-2. The Bucs last played the Hokies on Feb. 17, 2019, dropping an 8-3 outing to Virginia Tech. The Bucs are 0-7 all-time when playing in Blacksburg, Va.

Virginia Tech is 14-3 on the season and ranked No. 6 in the latest rankings. The Hokies are most recently coming off a three-game sweep at No. 14/9 Clemson. Virginia Tech has hit eight homers as a unit and is led by Emma Ritter with a .413 batting average. Cameron Fagan (.362) and Kelsey Bennett (.346) are each hitting over the .300 mark. Emma Lemley is the top pitcher with a 6-1 record and an 0.79 ERA through 35.1 innings of work.
