ETSU to begin league action on Saturday
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 25, 2022) – ETSU Softball will begin Southern Conference action this weekend with a three-game series against Western Carolina at Betty Basler Field. The series has been altered slightly due to inclement weather with the two squads playing a single game on Saturday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

About the Bucs
ETSU enters the SoCon series on a tough skid with 16 consecutive losses, most recently dropping four games at the Tiger Classic in Memphis, Tenn. The Bucs are 4-21 on the year and will open league play against the Catamounts. Through 11 seasons, ETSU has won four SoCon-opening series, including 2019 when the Bucs swept Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C. The Bucs are led by Kelly Warren (Mechanicsville, Va.) with a .356 batting average to go along with a team-high 10 RBIs. Warren has recorded 26 hits and 13 runs scored and leads the team in stolen bases with 14.
Clipping the Catamounts
Western Carolina is 12-13 heading into the weekend series, coming off a 6-2 loss at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Catamounts are 6-4 when playing away from Cullowhee this spring. Bailey Huneycutt leads Western Carolina in batting with a .324 average behind 24 hits, including a team-best six long balls and 22 RBIs. The Catamounts have blasted 22 homers as a team with 74 RBIs. Jayme Eilers is 4-3 in the circle with a 1.38 ERA, followed by Savannah Rice with a 2.86 ERA through 76 complete innings.
Series History
ETSU is 22-13 all-time against Western Carolina, dropping the three-game series to the Catamounts last season that snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Bucs in the all-time series. ETSU is 12-3 all time against Western Carolina when playing at Betty Basler Field.
