ETSU looks to start April with a series win

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 1, 2022) – ETSU Softball is headed down the road to in-state rival Chattanooga for a three-game series. The Bucs and Mocs will square off in the Southern Conference series beginning on Saturday, April 2 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. and will cap off the three-game showdown with a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Young Talent
Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) is making a case for SoCon Freshman of the Year with a .333 batting average in 30 games played. The Knoxville, Tenn. native posted a season-high eight-game hitting streak and a team-best 15-game on-base streak before failing to get on base in the finale against the Spartans on Wednesday. Young has 27 hits and five RBIs this season, while accumulating a .393 on-base percentage. During her eight-game hitting streak, Young hit .524 at the plate with four RBIs. She also drew three walks and swiped three bags. The “Young” third baseman held on on-base percentage of .600 and a slugging percentage of .571 during the streak.

Challenging Chattanooga
The Mocs are 18-15 on the season, including 2-1 in league play heading into the three-game series. Chattanooga is most recently coming off a series win over Furman, despite dropping the series finale 7-5 at Frost Stadium. Emily Coltharp continues to shine for the Mocs with a .402 batting average and a team-best 41 hits. Four different Chattanooga players are batting over .300, including Olivia Lipari who is hitting .307 with six long balls and 21 RBIs. The Mocs are hitting .280 this spring with 237 hits, including 28 home runs and 142 RBIs. Brooke Parrott leads the team in the circle with a 9-2 overall record and a 2.27 ERA, punching out 49 batters in 80.1 innings of work.

Series History
ETSU is 11-29 all-time against the Mocs of Chattanooga. The Bucs are also 5-10 all-time at Frost Stadium. ETSU and Chattanooga have not squared off in Chattanooga since April 28-29, 2018. The two teams were set to square off in Chattanooga in 2020 until COVID-19 hit and cancelled the remainder of the season. The Bucs are 3-7 in the last 10 meetings with the Mocs, including dropping four consecutive battles against the SoCon foe.
