Bucs look for first home win of the season

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 7, 2023) – The ETSU softball team will close out its brief three-game homestand with a pair of games against Ball State on Wednesday afternoon.

With first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Betty Basler Field, game two of the doubleheader is scheduled to start around 4 p.m. as the Bucs look to take a lead in the all-time series against Ball State.

ABOUT ETSU

• The Bucs are 3-12, coming off a 5-4 loss to Appalachian State last Tuesday.
• Wednesday afternoon will be the first midweek doubleheader the Bucs compete in.
• Starting all 15 games for the Blue and Gold, Sara Muir (Sequatchie, Tenn.) is ranked No. 26 in the nation with five home runs, while posting a team-best .419 batting average.
• Three different Bucs are tied with 18 hits to lead the squad. Muir, Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Riley Nayadley (Ooltewah,Tenn.) are the only three Bucs to start every game this season.
• Brianna Bailey (Wewahitchka, Fla.) is 2-3 as a starter, producing 30 strikeouts in 32.2 innings of work for the Buccaneers.

ABOUT BALL STATE

• Ball State owns an 8-7 record, with a perfect 7-0 record in neutral site contests.
• The Cardinals enter the matchup coming off a 3-1 win over Stetson on Sunday at the Bulldog Classic in Athens.
• Haley Wynn leads the team in hits with 24, runs scored with 15 and a team-best .490 batting average.
• Angelina Russo has appeared in eight games for the Cardinals, while pitching for 39.0 innings and posting a 1.62 ERA off 22 hits.

SERIES HISTORY

• The Bucs are 2-3 all-time against Ball State.
• Wednesday afternoon will be sixth and seventh meetings all-time and the first time the two teams met in Johnson City, having played their previous five contests at neutral sites.
• ETSU last defeated Ball State in a 2-1 game in 2010 at the Quality Inn Classic in Troy, Ala.
