Bucs play doubleheader Saturday; single game Sunday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 24, 2023) – Retuning to North Carolina for the third time this season, the ETSU softball team will commence SoCon play with a trip to Greensboro, N.C., to face last season’s regular-season champion, UNCG.  

The three-game series will get started Saturday at 1 p.m., with game two following approximately 30 minutes after. To close out play at the UNCG Softball Stadium, the Bucs will play the final game of the series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

ABOUT ETSU

• The Bucs enter the series with a 7-18 record, winning the previous two against Eastern Illinois last Thursday and Friday.
• Leading the squad with 28 hits and a .341 batting average, Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) has started all 25 games for the Blue and Gold.
• Sharing the lead with 13 RBI apiece, Sara Muir (Sequatchie, Tenn.) and Riley Nayadley (Ooltewah, Tenn.) are first and second in team slugging percentage with .557 and .459, respectively.

• The Bucs will start a four-game road trip, before returning home for a five-game stand to open April.

ABOUT UNC GREENSBORO

• On a five-game win streak, UNCG enters the series with a 19-12 overall record, with a 13-6 mark at home.
• Jorde Chartrand leads UNCG with a .384 batting average, producing a team-best 28 hits.
• In the circle for the Spartans, Chartrand has pitched for 57.2 innings, owing a 3.88 ERA while striking out 54 batters.
• Maycin Brown has in team-high in both home runs (8) and RBI (24).

SERIES HISTORY

• ETSU is 9-33 in the all-time series against UNC Greensboro.
• The Bucs dropped all three games last year in the series played in Johnson City.
• The last matchup at the UNCG Softball Stadium, the Blue and Gold defeated the Spartans, 7-2, back on March 27, 2021.
