Bucs Unable to Continue Offensive Showing, Fall to Terriers in Three

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 16, 2021) – With a hot streak at hand, the Bucs were met with another high-powered offense as Wofford swept ETSU (21-25, 14-25, for their 10th victory of their campaign. This marks the first road conference loss for ETSU this fall, and three straight losses in Spartanburg. Samantha Shafer (Franklin, Tenn.) led the Bucs with eight kills on .350 hitting.

Bucs and Terriers Face Off in Saturday Contest

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2021) – After ETSU’s longest homestand of the season came to an end Tuesday against Chattanooga, ETSU looks to head back to South Carolina with a showdown against Wofford. The Terriers won both matches in Spartanburg in the spring after an injury-riddled start to the season. ETSU is 3-2 in their last five matches at Wofford, leading the all-time series 25-8.

Aces Power Bucs in Sweep Over Chattanooga

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2021) – Looking to get back over .500 in conference play, ETSU took advantage of 11 aces to sweep Chattanooga (25-19, 25-22, 25-20). The Bucs’ 11 aces are the most since recording 13 in a four-set loss against Samford in the spring. Sara Esposito (Pianiga, Venezia, Italy) recorded four of those aces while Josannah Vazquez (Mansfield, Texas) contributed three, which is now a career-high.

Bucs Welcome Mocs For Tuesday Clash

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2021) – The Bucs look to extend their nine-match win streak over the Mocs tomorrow night with ETSU’s three-match homestand coming to an end. Chattanooga enters the match 6-13 (2-4 SoCon) on the year after a split weekend where they beat Samford in five sets and were swept by Mercer. Chattanooga and Wofford, Saturday’s opponent, are the only two SoCon teams ETSU hasn’t faced since starting conference play three weeks ago.

Bucs Can’t Carry Momentum, Fall to Bears in Three

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 8, 2021) – With both teams looking to keep up with UNCG atop the SoCon standings, ETSU fell to Mercer in straight sets (24-26, 17-25, 17-25) as the Bears rode their defense and 39 kills to victory. Sara Esposito (Pianiga, Venezia, Italy) lead the team with 13 kills, her fifth straight with 13+, while Lundyn Coffman (Nolensville, Tenn.) provided sparks throughout the match with her seven kills and three blocks.

Efficient Offense and Dynamic Defense Carries Bucs Past Bulldogs

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 7, 2021) – A high-flying first set created the tone of the match that each team needed to be effective and determined. Despite the Bulldogs taking that set, the Bucs responded with determination, downing Samford in four sets (30-32, 26-24, 25-18, 25-23). This is just the second win over Samford in the last two seasons (including postseason), and the first win for the Bucs against the Bulldogs at home. Despite Samford recording 66 kills, their 29 errors and 14 service errors propelled the Bucs to the win.

Bucs Welcomes Bulldogs and Bears in Weekday Tilts

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 6, 2021) – The Bucs return to Johnson City after a trip back to South Carolina where they knocked off Furman and The Citadel in four sets each. Senior Sara Esposito (Pianiga, Venezia, Italy) was on fire last weekend, with 4.63 kills/set in two matches en route to a SoCon Offensive Player of the Week award. The Bulldogs enter the weekend 3-12, but 2-2 in conference play. Mercer comes in near the top of the conference standings with a 7-8 record and 3-1 in the conference.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 3, 2021) – ETSU’s first conference road trip ended with a successful Sunday, topping The Citadel in four sets (25-20, 22-25, 27-25, 25-21). This is the first time this season that ETSU has won multiple games in a row. ETSU has now won 13 of 14 conference matches against the Bulldogs since 2014. Senior Sara Esposito (Pianiga, Venezia, Italy) finished with a career-high 22 kills, just a day after tallying a season-high 15 kills in the victory over Furman.
