Participating teams were ETSU, King College, Milligan College and Carson-Newman College. The teams played 2 out of 3, rally to 30 (3rd game to 15 or to time alloted). Each match was timed to 50 minutes and total points were collected from the games for an overall winner of each match.
The Buccaneers fell in their first match, 30-12, 21-30, 10-12 to Carson-Newman. They defeated King College, 30-15, 30-28 in their second match. ETSU and Milligan split two sets in a time-shortened match, 26-30, 30-27. The Buccaneers won their final match against Carson-Newman, 30-21, 30-26.
"I was very pleased with how the team served," said Buccaneer assistant coach Shannon Mincey. "The new rule (the ball can hit the net on the serve) allows us to be much more aggressive."
Many of the ETSU freshmen got valuable playing experience in the tournament. "We played our final match with six freshmen on the floor," said Mincey. "It is exciting to know we have young talent returning in our program."
