Johnson City, Tenn.-- Junior setter Carey Cavanaugh was named to the All-Southern Conference Volleyball Team for the second consecutive year Thursday afternoon from Asheville, N.C.
In two years of play at ETSU after transferring from Ohio State, Cavanaugh has been named All-SoCon following both years.
Cavanaugh is just 22 assists shy of becoming just the fourth ETSU player to record 2,000 career assists. Cavanaugh has 875 assists on the season and her 1,978 career assists put her fourth in the ETSU record book. She ranks ninth in the conference in assists per game (9.83) and fourth in the conference in digs per game (3.58). She has tallied 40 assists or more in nine matches, including a 64 assist performance in a win against Davidson on Oct. 7. Also in the Davidson match, Cavanaugh set an ETSU record with 37 digs. Cavanaugh leads the Bucs in assists per game, digs per game, and is fifth in blocks per game (.46). Cavanaugh has averaged a stellar 11.4 assists and 4.35 digs per game since returning from an injury on Nov. 1.
Cavanaugh and the rest of the Buccaneers take on Furman Friday at 7:00 in the first round of the Southern Conference Volleyball Championships from John Kresse Arena on the campus of the College of Charleston.
