Volleyball Loses At Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Freshmen Jody Steinberger and Kari Krouse continued their hot streak as the duo combined for 28 kills and 23 digs as Chattanooga swept a three-game match from East Tennessee State (15-11, 15-6, 15-10) Oct. 14 at Maclellan Gym.

Steinberger had her second straight double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs. She has been on a torrid October pace with 105 kills and 70 digs in seven games this month. Krouse had 13 kills and nine digs against ETSU and has has 39 kills and hit .460 in her last two matches.

UTC ran its winning streak to six and moved to 13-9 overall and 9-2 in the Southern Conference. ETSU dropped to 11-7 and 8-4.

After winning the first game 15-11, the Lady Mocs hit a scorching .417 in the second game to win easily 15-6. In the third game, the Lady Mocs trailed 7-1 before rallying behind five kills from Steinberger, five from Allison Jurasek, four from Krouse and four from Carol Reedus.

Reedus finished with 11 kills and Jurasek 10. Jenn Anderson had 51 assists and a team-high 15 digs. Katy Lusetti had 14 digs and was in on six blocks. Sarah Dutcher added 11 digs.

ETSU was led by Carey Cavanaugh who posted a triple-double with 10 kills, 12 digs and 33 assists. Amber Ciskowski had 17 digs, Kate Steidle had a dozen and Jena Policastro 10. Senior Courtney Sussillo, one of the Lady Bucs' leading hitters, suffered an ankle injury early in the second game.

UTC hits the road for four consecutive SoCon games starting Oct. 18 at Western Carolina.
