DAVIDSON, N.C. (Oct. 7) - The Davidson Wildcat volleyball team was upset by East Tennessee State in a five-game nailbiter Oct. 7, 16-14, 7-15, 14-16, 17-15, and 15-12. The loss snapped the Cats seven-game win streak and also ended a nineteen-match home unbeaten streak against conference foes, dating back to a 1998 loss to Chattanooga.

Davidson falls to 11-7 overall and 7-2 in the Southern Conference while the Bucs improve to 10-5 and 7-2 in SoCon action.

In the first game, after digging a 6-0 hole early, the Cats rebounded to get to game point at 14-12. However, Davidson was unable to convert and ETSU bounced back to take game one, 16-14.

Not discouraged by the ups and downs of the first game, the Cats ran out to a 10-0 lead in the second game and cruised to victory, 15-7. Once again in the third game, Davidson pulled away early, this time having a lead as big as five, 6-1. The home squad held on to win game three, 16-14, and looked to be headed to another victory.

Game four proved costly to Davidson as they were able to score match point after reaching 14-13, but could not end the match. East Tennessee State hung around long enough to steal game four, 17-15. The momentum gained by the Bucs in game four carried over to the final game as ETSU won nine out of the last 13 points to pull off the upset.

Jena Policastro led a trio of Bucs with double-digit kills. Senior Mara Mordini, junior Jennifer Ortega and sophomore Rebecca Teichgraeber each reached double-digit kills for the Cats. Junior Erica Schwartz had an impressive game with 59 assists and 31 digs to lead Davidson.
