Johnson City, Tenn.-- East Tennessee State junior setter Carey Cavanaugh had strong game with 45 assists, nine kills and seven digs as the Buccaneers defeated the Furman Paladins in five games Saturday night from Brooks Gym.
With the win, the Buccaneers (6-4, 4-1) run their winning streak to four games in a row. In the early going of the match, that win streak seemed unlikely to continue. Furman won the first two games 15-4 and 18-16. However, near the end of the third game, the momentum began to shift as ETSU won the final three games 15-13, 15-7 and 15-5.
Junior outside hitter Amber Ciskowski led the Bucs in kills with 16 and added five digs. Senior middle hitter Jena Policastro led the Bucs with eight digs and contributed seven kills of her own.
The Paladins were led by junior setter Laura Hooks who finished the contest with 45 assists and nine kills. Shawn Beckham, a sophomore outside hitter, also had a strong game for Furman, leading the contest with 19 kills.
The Buccaneers will hit the road Friday evening as they face The Citadel Bulldogs from Charleston, S.C. at 7:00.
