JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 5, 2000) -- East Tennessee State freshman Lissa Allen crushed 17 kills to lead the Bucs in an exciting 3-2 win against Southern Conference rival Western Carolina in ETSU's Brooks Gym.
After ETSU (2-3, 1-0 Southern Conference) took the first game 15-9, Western Carolina (0-4, 0-1 Southern Conference) surged ahead 2-1 after 15-8 and 15-11 games. The Bucs responded by belting 23 kills in the fourth game and knotted the match with a 15-11 triumph. In the back-and-forth fifth and final set, the Bucs prevailed 16-14.
Junior Amber Ciskowksi recorded 12 kills, including the match's final point. Junior Carey Cavanaugh engineered the offense with 40 assists and added a team-high 16 digs.
The Catamounts were led by junior Christy Attebery's 38 kills on 77 attempts. She also recorded a game-high 21 digs. Ashley Minton had 15 kills and 13 digs for the visitors.
The Bucs return to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 9 when they host Chattanooga.
