Johnson City, Tenn. (May 16, 2002) East Tennessee State volleyball head coach Deane Webb Thursday announced the signing of Meghan Connolly (Solon, Ohio) to a national letter of intent to play for the Bucs beginning in the 2002 season.
Connolly was a star middle hitter for Solon High School in Solon, Ohio. She was an all-conference and all-region selection following the 2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons. Connolly was also named second team All-Ohio in 2002. Meghan was a Cleveland Plain Dealer Player-of-the-Week and was on the newspaper's first team All-Cuyahoga County team during the 2002 season.
In the Solon High School record books, Meghan ranks first in career kills (528), second for kills in a season (226 in 2001), fifth in career blocks (77) and sixth for solo blocks in a season (34).
Connolly also gained valuable experience while playing for the Akron Canton Elite (A.C.E.) club volleyball team for three seasons.
Connolly joins Kristi Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Renee Vesey (Paw Paw, Michigan) in East Tennessee State's 2002 recruiting class.
"Meghan brings a considerable amount of athletic ability to our team," commented Webb. "She is a fast player that will help us both offensively and defensively. Meghan plays with very high intensity and has a great desire to win. She also has benefited from playing in a high-level club system."
