Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State volleyball team (9-1, 6-1 SoCon) won their sixth consecutive match as they defeated the Citadel Bulldogs (4-7, 0-4), 3-0 Saturday from Brooks Gym. The Bucs are now 3-0 at home this season.
The Buccaneers jumped to a 8-3 lead when Citadel called it's first timeout. The Bulldogs just could not get back on track in the first match. The Citadel called another timeout when ETSU was up 16-3. The Bulldogs were able to score a few more times but ran out of time as the Bucs win the first match 30-8.
Game two was very different for both teams. The Bulldogs never let the Buccaneers have moe than a five point lead. The Citadel team was tough in this match, forcing the game to go to 33 points to decide a winner. In a close, tough match, ETSU wins 33-31.
In the final match, ETSU dominated again like they did in the first. The Citadel committed nine attack errors, which contributed to the 30-12 win by the Buccaneers.
The Bucs' seniors helped lead the team to victory against the Citadel. Senior setter Carey Cavanaugh collected 35 assists, two kills, two aces, four digs and a solo block. Senior Amber Ciskowski also contributed to the win with nine kills, one ace, four digs, and an assisted block. Sophomore Joi Anderson earned her first kill in her college career.
The Bulldogs were led by senior A.J. Watson who recorded 10 kills, four digs, and one assisted block. Sophomore Desiree Browning set her teammates up with 19 assists and recorded two kills herself.
