East Tennessee State Volleyball Wins Seventh Straight Match

Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State volleyball team (10-1) won their sixth consecutive match as they defeated the Lipscomb Lady Bisons (1-11), 3-0 Saturday from Brooks Gym. The Bucs are now 4-0 at home this season. The first game started with Lipscomb scoring the first two points but the Bucs would go on six point run to gain the lead and keep it. The Lady Bisons would attempt a comeback. Lipscomb would went on a 6-3 scoring run. But with service aces from Jessica Miller, Lissa Allen and Kate Steidle, the Buccaneers would win the first game 30-16. Game two was all ETSU after an intial 3-3 tie at the beginning. Steidle helped her team by getting four kills on five attempts and no errors. Lipscomb senior Kristin Peck was a bright spot for the Bisons with three kills in the second game. The Bucs win game two by the score of 30-18. The third game was full of action from both sides of the net. The largest lead the Bucs would have is six points early in the game. There were numerous ties and lead changes between the two teams. The game ended with the Buccaneers getting by Lipscomb, 33-31. ETSU's serves were very tough to return. The Buccaneers had a total of 12 aces in the match. Freshman Karen Freeburg led the team with 19 kills, an ace, seven digs and an assisted block. Miller had 43 assists, four aces, 2 kills, and 10 digs. The Buccaneers play at Brooks Gym again at on Oct. 5, 2001 at 7 p.m. against Davidson College.
