East Tennessee State-VMI Football Game Rescheduled for Thanksgiving Day
Monday, September 24, 2001
Johnson City, Tenn. -- VMI and East Tennessee State will play their postponed Southern Conference football game on November 22, at 12 Noon at Alumni Memorial Field in Lexington, Va. The game was originally scheduled for September 15, but was postponed when the Southern Conference called off all league athletic events that weekend in the wake of the tragic events of September 11 in New York City and Washington, D.C. The makeup date was agreed by both schools after the NCAA announced last week that I-AA playoffs would be pushed back one week from the original Nov. 24 date for first round games. "Certainly, it's important to make up this game because it's a Southern Conference game," said VMI athletic director Donny White. "It completes the league schedule so the round-robin format to determine a league champion is maintained. Our football team looks forward to playing all 11 games and to have the chance to finish the season with consecutive home games." There will be no admission charge to the rescheduled VMI-ETSU football game, but donations to the relief efforts of September 11 will be accepted. The Bucs return to the field Saturday at 2 p.m. as they travel to Boone, N.C. to face the rival Appalachian State Mountaineers.
