JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 2, 2007) - Senior Kaena Apana (Waianae, Hawaii), broke the Atlantic Sun record for digs in a season as the ETSU volleyball team defeated conference opponent Kennesaw State Friday night at Brooks Gym in four games, 30-25, 26-30, 30-20, 30-23.
"Kaena is a special person, and I am glad she was able to get the record tonight," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "We knew when we recruited her that she was going to be great. It is an honor for me to coach her."
Apana broke the record in the fourth game with an incredible dig to pass Ann Mullins of Lipscomb with her 690th dig of the season. Apana had 21 digs on the night and now holds the single season conference record for both digs with 694 and conference digs with 265.
Senior Callie Kiselich (
"Callie has the potential to be a dominant force at the net, and when she gets in rhythm she really can get on a roll and put games away," Devine said. "Laura and Erin also stepped up their game tonight and worked hard."
Senior Marissa Mortensen (
"I thought that we did some good things at certain points in the match, and it was great to be able to get the entire team on the court," Devine said. "This game will give us more confidence as we head to the conference tournament."
With the win the Bucs improve to 18-12 overall and 8-2 in conference play. The Bucs finish the regular season tomorrow at home against conference opponent Mercer at 2 p.m. in Brooks Gym. It will be Senior Day as the Bucs will try to secure the second seed in the conference tournament.
