JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 30, 2010) - After earning its first victory of 2010 against defending Big South champion Coastal Carolina in the Deacon Invitational, ETSU welcomes in Appalachian State to Brooks Gym for the first home match of the season, Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
The Bucs went 1-2 this past weekend at the season opening Deacon Invitational. They dropped contests against Georgia and Wake Forest before sweeping Coastal Carolina. Senior setter Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the way for the Bucs after dishing out 74 assists to go along with six kills, 12 digs, and five blocks. She was also named to the Deacon Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Calif.) was impressive in her debut as she led the team with 36 digs on the weekend. Senior Desiree Dyck (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) was a force all weekend on the outside as she led the Bucs with 24 kills at a 3.43 kills per set clip. She currently ranks sixth in the A-Sun in kills. Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) and McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) were forces at the net after recording ten and nine blocks, respectively. Long and Barber both are currently in the top five in the A-Sun in blocks after the first weekend.
Appalachian State (3-0) enters the midweek contest having swept through the competition at the High Point University Tournament, this past weekend. The Mountaineers swept UNC Wilmington and N.C. A&T before rallying to defeat High Point on the final day.  The 3-0 mark is the best start to a season under head coach Matt Ginipro and the best start for ASU since going 3-0 to begin the 2005 campaign.
The Mountaineers are led by Meghann Forshey as she was named tournament MVP at the High Point Tournament. Forshey totaled 29 kills and eight blocks for the three games. Courtney Rhein was also on the all-tournament team after coming away with 63 digs on the weekend.
After the midweek contest, ETSU will travel to Radford, Va. on Sept. 3-4 for the Radford Invitational. ETSU will take on Canisius, Davidson and Norfolk State.
