(Sept. 21, 2010) - Fresh off a second place finish in the Georgia Southern SpringHill Suites Invitational, the ETSU volleyball team will head to Chattanooga for a midweek non-conference matchup against the Mocs on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. inside Maclellan Gym.

Over the weekend, the Bucs (9-5) posted a 3-1 record in the tournament that included wins over Charleston Southern, South Alabama, and Winthrop. ETSU senior middle blocker Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) led the way for the Bucs as she tallied 38 kills and 16 blocks on the weekend. She was named to the SpringHill Suites Invitational All-Tournament Team and was just recently named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week.

On the season, Long leads the team and the conference in blocks with 65 (1.20 bps) and is second on the team with 121 kills. She is also swinging at a .312 clip which leads the team and ranks third in the league.

Chattanooga (4-10) enters the match following a 1-2 record at their own tournament, the Country Inns and Suites Invitational. The Mocs opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Atlantic Sun member Belmont. Then, they picked up a 3-2 victory over UCF before closing the event with a 3-0 loss to James Madison.

Jennifer Kuroski and Courtney Barnes lead the way for the Mocs offensively. Kuroski has compiled 130 kills (2.55 kps) while Barnes has amassed 129 kills (2.43 kps) at an impressive .327 percentage on the season. Paula Passmore leads the team defensively with 301 digs (5.57 dps). Passmore was just recently named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week following an impressive showing at the Country Inns and Suites Invitational.

The two teams met twice last season with Chattanooga winning both matches by a 3-1 count. In the first match of the year for the Bucs a year ago at the Comfort Inn & Suites Classic, Chattanooga had three players record double-digit kills, while the team hit .250 in the victory. The Bucs were led by Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) as she recorded 10 kills. In the second matchup of the season in Johnson City, Chattanooga once again had three players record double-digit kills and the team outhit the Bucs .287-.178. Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Bucs offensively with 12 kills and 10 digs.

Chattanooga leads the all-time series between the two rivals by just one match 27-26, and the rivalry dates back to when both teams were competing in the Southern Conference. ETSU last defeated Chattanooga in 2007 when they took a 3-1 victory.
