Hardy named Best Blocker, Muey Best Libero

FAIRFAX, Va. (Sept. 7, 2014) – Seniors Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) received honors following the conclusion of the Patriot Invitational on late Saturday night. Hardy was named “Best Blocker” of the tournament, while Muey received “Best Libero” accolades.

Hardy finished with 24 total blocks in the four matches, resulting in 1.60 blocks per set. The Kingsport, Tenn. native broke ETSU’s total blocks and block assists records for a three-set match in the win over George Mason on Friday night. Hardy finished with 11 block assists and tied her career-high with 12 total blocks. Overall, Hardy – who has recorded at least one block in 100 straight matches – has totaled 510 career blocks and needs only 28 more to break the ETSU all-time blocks record.

As Hardy was rewriting the ETSU record book, Muey also followed suit as she registered 93 total digs, including an ETSU three-set match record with 33 digs in the win over Lehigh on Saturday. Not only were the 33 digs the most by any Buccaneer player in a three-set match, but it also marked a career high for Muey. On Friday, Muey had 31 digs in the five-setter against William and Mary, which was then a career-high for the Buccaneer libero. For the weekend, Muey averaged 6.20 digs per set.

As a team, the Bucs split their four matches on the weekend. ETSU swept both George Mason and Lehigh, while falling to Maryland in four and William and Mary in five sets.

The Bucs continue their road swing as ETSU heads to Nashville next weekend for the Lipscomb Invitational. ETSU opens play against Utah on Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern.
