Q&A With Kristen Favre
Wednesday, September 17, 2014

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2014) – Each week during the season, members of the ETSU volleyball team will be featured in a "Q&A" segment on ETSUBucs.com.

The second student-athlete profile is sophomore setter Kristen Favre (Plano, Texas). Last year, Favre played in 24 matches for the Blue and Gold, totaling 99 assists, while this season the Buccaneer sophomore finished with a career-high 57 assists in the five-set match against William and Mary. The 57 assists are the fifth-most by a player in the Southern Conference this season.

During the preseason, the players came up with the questions, which can be found below, and each of them submitted their answers. Below are the responses by Favre:

If you could witness any event (past or present) what would it be? Why?
Landing on the moon. I think it would be such an amazing moment to witness and knowing that you are the first person to take a huge step for the world… To experience that would be amazing.

What is your favorite thing to do off the court with your teammates?
EAT… We are either eating or watching TV together – mostly the Bachelor/Bachelorette. Whatever we are doing, we always have a blast and are super loud.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would travel to Greece or Rome. I love places that have rich history that you can really get into when visiting, or you can just relax and enjoy the sights… Have you seen both of these places – They are BEAUTIFUL!

What is a non-athletic accomplishment that you are most proud of?
My GPA... My pride stems from the fact that I am a student-athlete and still able to balance my time well enough to maintain a high GPA.

Who is the best dancer on the team?
Either Bri (Briana Allmon) or Merf (Meredith Hardy)!

What is your favorite quote?
“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.’

What is something that not many people know about you?
I can shoot a gun!

What movie can you watch over and over and never get tired of?
“Gladiator” or “She’s the Man”

If you could have hung out with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?
I would love to hang out with Will Ferrell. He just seems like a hilarious guy and I would be laughing nonstop!

If you could pick any profession in life (regardless of education, money, judgment, or training) what would it be? What's stopping you?
If I could pick any profession, I think I would be involved in art or the book publishing world. Artistic jobs seem like you get a lot of time to reflect on yourself and society, and then turn it into whatever you want! There is so much freedom in self-expression. I think I am not pursuing this job because I think I would LOVE all the free time – for a week – then I would be too bored. I am just one of those people who will get bored with too much free time.

What do you think is an important rule to live by?
“The path to paradise begins in hell.” So give your 100% in everything you do.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. Every year I get to see my huge, crazy family and catch up with everyone. I get to be surrounded by the people that I love, and especially being away from them after six months of school, I appreciate my time with them even more. Also, Thanksgiving is just such a happy holiday that you get to sit back and be grateful for everything and everyone you have in life.

What is a talent you don't have that you wish you did?
I wish I could pick up languages quickly. I know a little bit but I would love to be able to talk to people in their native languages and even eaves drop every now and then.

What are the top three things on your bucket list?
1) Go Skydiving
2) Take part in the Holi Festival of Colors in India
3) Learn how to surf

What is one piece of advice you would give a young athlete who aspires to be a college athlete?
Hold onto the passion that you have for the game, embrace being uncomfortable in practices, and don’t let ANYONE make you doubt yourself and you’re goals.

If you had not pursued volleyball, which sport would you have pursued, and why?
I probably would have played soccer or tennis. Both sports take a lot of stamina, coordination, and major mental focus that I think I could have had fun with!

Favre and the Bucs wrap up their preseason tournament schedule this weekend as ETSU heads to Richmond for the VCU Invitational. The Bucs open the tournament with Ball State Friday at noon.
