SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 6, 2014) – ETSU senior libero Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week as the league office released its weekly honors on Monday afternoon.
Muey helped guide the Buccaneers to a pair of home wins as ETSU knocked off Big South favorite Radford and UNCG last week inside Brooks Gym. The Buccaneer senior libero was dominate in ETSU’s back row as she totaled 64 digs (7.11 per set) in nine sets.
Muey began the week with a career-high 37 dig effort in the five-set win over the Highlanders, while finishing up play with a match-high 27 digs in the conference win over UNCG on Friday. Following her 37-dig performance, Muey moved into third-place on ETSU’s all-time digs list. Furthermore, the 37 digs are tied for the 11th highest total by an NCAA Division I player this season in a five-set match, while it also marked the most by a SoCon player this year.
This is the first career weekly honor for Muey.
The Bucs wrap up their three-match homestand Tuesday night when ETSU hosts MTSU in non-conference play. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Brooks Gym.
