JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 6, 2014) – The ETSU volleyball team looks to wrap up a perfect homestand when the Bucs host MTSU on Tuesday night inside Brooks Gym. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Bucs (7-11), who have defeated Radford and UNCG during this home stint, are in search of their fourth straight victory.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BUCS
ETSU is coming off a four-set win over UNCG on Friday night where Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Khadijah Wiley (Columbus, Ga.) combined for 36 of the Bucs’ 56 kills. Both Hardy and Wiley ended with 18 kills and four blocks.
Sophomore setter Kristen Favre (Plano, Texas) quarterbacked ETSU’s offense as she dished out 47 of the Bucs’ 52 assists, while senior libero Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.), who was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week earlier on Monday, led all players with 27 digs.
As a team, UNCG was plus-5 in kills (61-56) and plus-11 in digs (79-68), but the Bucs forced the Spartans into 32 attack errors. Overall, the Blue and Gold outhit UNCG, .269-.163.
ABOUT MTSU
MTSU (6-11) is coming off a five-set win over Louisiana Tech on Sunday.
The Blue Raiders are led by junior outside hitter Chelsea Ross as she is averaging 4.07 and 2.34 digs per set. MTSU has three players averaging nearly one block per set as senior Monet Marshall is posting 1.09 blocks per set, while Jazmyne Johnson (0.98) and Rachel Shaughnessy are second and third on the team, respectively.
As a team, MTSU is averaging 2.37 blocks per set.
Four of MTSU’s wins have come in five-set matches, while the Blue Raiders are combined 2-8 in three and four set matches.
SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday marks the fifth all-time meeting with the series being split at two games apiece.
The Blue Raiders swept the previous meeting back in 2011 at the MTSU Blue Raider Bash. The match in 2011 marked the first meeting since 1981.
