JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 9, 2014) – Each week during the season, members of the ETSU volleyball team will be featured in a "Q&A" segment on ETSUBucs.com.
The next student-athlete profile is senior Bethany Gesell (High Point, N.C.). Gesell has totaled 761 kills, 292 digs, 215 blocks and 66 service aces in her career. The High Point, N.C. native was named to the 2012 Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team, while this season Gesell set a career-high with 23 kills against William and Mary and had 19 kills and a career-high 15 digs in the five-set win over Radford.
During the preseason, the players came up with the questions, which can be found below, and each of them submitted their answers. Below are the responses by Gesell:
If you could witness any event (past or present) what would it be? Why?
This was hard one to think of, but it would be really cool to witness the relationship and death of Romeo and Juliet.
What is your favorite thing to do off the court with your teammates?
EAT!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Australia, I have wanted to visit there my entire life to see the beaches, wildlife and maybe even pick up the accent! J
What is a non-athletic accomplishment that you are most proud of?
To be able to eat a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream in under ten minutes.
Who is the best dancer on the team?
Merf! (Meredith Hardy)
What is your favorite quote?

What is something that not many people know about you?
I broke my collarbone in high school playing football.
What movie can you watch over and over and never get tired of?
“Pride and Prejudice” or “The Proposal”
If you could have hung out with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?
Miley Cyrus when she was Hannah Montana
If you could pick any profession in life (regardless of education, money, judgment, or training) what would it be? What's stopping you?
To be a professional shopper for celebrities... The thing stopping me is I don’t have a degree in fashion and I don’t exactly live in the right area to have enough work to support myself.
What do you think is an important rule to live by?
Life’s not fair. Learn to deal with it.
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Christmas, it is the only time during the year where my entire family is home and I get to spend time with them.
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
1) Go skydiving!
2) Travel the world… Starting with the west coast.
3) Move to New York City for a year with my best friend!
What is a talent you don't have that you wish you did?
I really wish I could sing!
What is one piece of advice you would give a young athlete who aspires to be a college athlete?
Make sure you know how to manage your time between academics, athletics, and your personal/social life.
If you had not pursued volleyball, which sport would you have pursued, and why?
I would have pursued softball because I used to play until my junior year of high school.
Gesell and the Bucs hit the road this weekend as ETSU plays at Furman (Friday) and Western Carolina (Saturday).
