SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 13, 2014) – For the second straight week, ETSU senior libero Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week as the league office released its weekly award winners on Monday.
Muey, who also received the defensive honor last week, totaled 80 digs in three matches for the Blue and Gold, resulting in an average of 6.67 per set.
The Buccaneer senior libero began the week with a 28-dig effort in a four-set win over MTSU last Tuesday, while finishing the weekend with a career-high 40-dig performance at Western Carolina on Saturday. The 40 digs were three shy of breaking ETSU’s single-match record, while also being the fifth-most registered by a NCAA Division I player this year.
Muey now has totaled 1,591 career digs, which ranks 19th among active NCAA players, while her 463 career sets played rank first. This season, Muey’s 429 digs tops all SoCon players, while placing sixth nationally.
Muey joins UNCG’s Katherine Santiago and Western Carolina’s Elyssa Mulheron to win multiple defensive player of the week honors this season.
The Bucs open a three-match homestand Friday night when ETSU hosts Wofford at 7 p.m. inside Brooks Gym.
