SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Nov. 10, 2014) – For the fourth time this season and second straight week, ETSU senior libero Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced the league office on Monday.
Muey, who is the second player to receive the honor four times in one season, averaged 6.69 digs (87 total) in three wins last week for the Blue and Gold.
The Buccaneer senior began the week with 33 digs and five assists in the five-set win over Western Carolina on Tuesday, while adding 26 digs and four assists in the road win at Wofford on Friday. Muey then ended the week with a 28-dig, 5-assist performance in ETSU’s Senior Day victory against Samford Saturday afternoon in Brooks Gym. Overall, Muey led all players in digs for all three matches, while helping the Bucs end their home season with nine straight wins inside Brooks Gym.
Muey, the SoCon leader in digs with 626, became the first ETSU player to record over 600 digs in a season since Kaena Apana finished the 2007 campaign with a program-best 750.
Muey and Appalachian State’s Meghan Mahoney (2013) are now the only two players to receive SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors four times in one season.
The Bucs wrap up regular season play on the road this weekend as ETSU plays at The Citadel on Friday night (6 p.m.) and at Mercer Saturday afternoon (1 p.m.).
