SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Dec. 3, 2014) – ETSU senior libero Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) received her second straight Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Month honor as the league office announced its November accolades on Wednesday.
Muey, who helped guide the Buccaneers to a 6-1 record in November, totaled 173 digs (5.97 digs per set) in seven matches. The 5.97 digs were more than one dig per set ahead of the next closest competitor.
The Alexandria, Ind. native had at least 20 digs in six of ETSU’s seven matches, including 33 in a five-set win over Western Carolina on Nov. 4, good for the fourth-highest total in the SoCon this season. Muey, who was also the SoCon Defensive Player of the Month in October, had four of the top five single-match digs marks in the league this season. The SoCon Libero of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection, had 28 digs in a four-set win over Samford and 26 in a four-set win over Wofford. She opened the month with 24 digs against Chattanooga on Nov. 1, had 22 in a win over The Citadel and 19 in the Bucs’ regular-season finale at Mercer.
Muey broke ETSU’s all-time digs record following her 24-dig performance against Chattanooga and finished with 1,850 career digs, while her 688 digs this season ranks fifth nationally.
