ETSU begins homestand with Mercer and The Citadel

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.  (October 20, 2016) – ETSU volleyball has captured five straight wins and looks to remain undefeated at home this weekend as the Buccaneers host Mercer on Friday, Oct.21 at 7:00 p.m. and The Citadel on Saturday, Oct.22 at 2:00 p.m.

Scouting the Buccaneers
After recording three wins last week, two of which were three-set victories, the Bucs head into the weekend with an overall record of 14-6 and atop the Southern Conference standings with a record of 6-2.  

Briana Allmon named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week
For the second straight week senior outside hitter Briana Allmon (Flower Mound, Texas) was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week after recording a team-high 41 kills, averaging 4.10 kills per set and hitting. 271.

Home Sweet Home
ETSU has a perfect 6-0 record at home this season, marking the best home start since 2013. Inside Brooks Gym, the blue and gold have relinquished just two sets this season and are winners of seven straight sets.

Buccaneer Five
ETSU is currently riding a five match winning streak, the second longest winning streak this season. Since 2005, ETSU volleyball has carried a winning streak of five games or longer 11 times. It’s the fourth straight season the Bucs have had at least one five game winning streak during the season.

SoCon Rankings
The Bucs rank either first or second in multiple categories throughout the SoCon which has propelled them to the top spot in the SoCon rankings:
1st – Hitting Percentage (.245)
2nd – Opp. Hitting Percentage (.184)
1st – Assist per set (13.26)
1st – Kills per set (14.20)
2nd – Blocks per set (2.05)
2nd – Service Aces per set (1.39)

Scouting Mercer
The Bears head into the weekend with an overall record of 11-8 and 3-4 in the SoCon. Mercer has struggled on the road as of late compiling an overall record of 2-5 away from Macon, Ga. Last weekend Mercer split their two matches falling at Western Carolina in five sets and defeating Furman at home in three sets.

Scouting The Citadel
Fresh off their first SoCon victory since 2011 over Furman last weekend, the Bulldogs come into a match-up with the Bucs with an overall record of 8-15 and 1-6 in conference play. All-time The Citadel is 0-15 versus ETSU with 10 of the Buccaneer victories coming in three sets. The Bulldogs
