NASHVILLE, TENN. (Sept. 4, 2019) — Kaela Massey (Brentwood, Tenn.) has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association player of the week. She is the first ETSU athlete to receive the honor since Rylee Milhorn won it for volleyball in back-to-back weeks in 2017.
Last week, Massey finished with 28 kills over 62 attempts for a .387 hitting percentage which led the Southern Conference throughout the weekend. The lone senior on the roster logged 20 total blocks (five solo) and five service aces. Her 20 blocks also lead the SoCon.
Massey had eight blocks in back-to-back matches for the first time in her career and finished a dig shy of a double-double in the team’s win against Southeastern Louisiana.
ETSU is off to a 3-0 start after sweeping the Jacksonville State Invitational last weekend. They are back in action this weekend at the Coastal Carolina Classic taking place in Greensboro, N.C.
“Kaela is a tremendous athlete and leader on and off the court,” said head coach Benavia Jenkins. “I am excited to see what she accomplishes throughout the rest of the season.”
