JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 7, 2020) – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that ETSU was one of 1,313 teams that have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season. This number has set an all-time record for the AVCA.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or higher. The Bucs had a 3.574 cumulative GPA for the 2019-20 academic year.
The Bucs have been given the recognition eight times over the course of the last decade. "I am very proud of our young ladies," stated Head Coach Benavia Jenkins. "Their hard work and determination have paid off to be successful on and off the court."
The NCAA Division I level honored 227 programs, five of which are Southern Conference opponents; UNCG, Samford, Chattanooga, Western Carolina and Wofford. The AVCA Team Academic Award is the single largest award offered by schools, players and coaches.
