Johnson City, Tenn. (Oct. 16, 2020) — Sara Esposito (Venezia, Italy) is a junior right-side hitter on ETSU’s volleyball team. Last season, Esposito played 30 of the team’s 31 matches and was fourth on the team with a .293 hitting percentage and 2.63 kills per set. She was second on the squad with 111 blocks and was named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament Team after hitting .471 with 47 kills and just seven errors in the tournament.

Why did you choose to come to ETSU?
I chose ETSU because the volleyball program is a great on and off the court. ETSU offered the major I was interested in, Nutrition.

What is your favorite part of being a part of the volleyball team at ETSU?
I love celebrating with my team whenever there is a big moment. Every time there is a perfect pass or great dig and the setter sets the ball where the opponent blocker isn’t able to block on time, and our hitter hits the ball so hard that it makes a really loud sound as it hits the floor, those are the moments I love. It is a great feeling afterwards when everyone screams and comes together to cheer in the middle of the court.

Describe what it means to be a part of the ‘ETSU Family’.
We have an amazing coaching staff who knows us and what we need to improve on. The past year we were a family; everyone was always together and had the same goals. Obviously, as always, sometimes there are moments when things don’t go how we want, but we always continue to support each other.

Why did you choose to major in Nutrition and what do you want to do after you graduate?
I choose nutrition because when I was little, I always liked to cook. My dad always had a passion of cooking and he taught me how to cook. I became more curious and wanted to know more about food and how it affects our lives each and every day.

What's your favorite part of Johnson City?
I love the mountains and all of the views around the city.

What was it like coming to Johnson City from Italy?
At the first was really difficult because I was far away from my family. With the passing of time, I started to like to be here with my friends and the volleyball team. I’m happy to be back and I am ready to help my team win a championship.
