Bucs post 3.42 GPA in 2020-21

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 21, 2021) – For the second straight year and tenth time in the last 12 years, the ETSU volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) team academic honor, as the organization announced its awards earlier this week.

The Bucs, who placed 13 players on the Southern Conference Honor Roll and seven on the SoCon All-Academic Team, registered a 3.42 cumulative grade point average this past 2020-21 season. Four Buccaneers received SoCon Commissioner’s Medals (having a 3.8 GPA or higher) this past season, including Sanne Maring having a perfect 4.0 mark.

“I am proud of our team for earning this award,” said head coach Benavia Jenkins. “During the pandemic they worked really hard in the classroom. I know it was difficult for all teams, but this team showed a lot of maturity about being successful off the court.”

In total, 1,275 collegiate and high school teams earned the honor, with ETSU being one of a record-setting 243 Division I programs to receive prestigious accolade.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
