DENVER, Colo. - The ETSU Lady Bucs waged a war with the Texas Southern Lady Tigers Saturday (Dec. 16) that included five ties and 13 lead changes. But in the end, Texas Southern prevailed, 65-63.
The Lady Bucs (1-7, 1-0) led at halftime 37-33 after holding the advantage for most of the first stanza. The game was kept close by the stingy Lady Tigers (4-6), with the largest ETSU lead of the half being the four point halftime lead.
Texas Southern came out of the locker room firing, putting together an 11-2 run to take the lead from the Lady Bucs, 46-39 with 11:49 remaining in the game.
The Lady Bucs chipped away at the Lady Tiger lead and following two consecutive stolen inbound passes and layups by Joi Anderson, ETSU was once again ahead 61-60 with 2:55 remaining. The Lady Bucs however could not hold back the Texas Southern attack as the Lady Tigers then went on a quick 4-0 run to effectively seal the game.
The Lady Bucs were led by a balanced scoring attack in which only one active player did not score. Erin Thurman, Megan Jackson and Racquel Ellis led ETSU with nine points each. Lauren Trantham pulled down a game high 11 rebounds.
The Lady Bucs return to action as they travel to South Carolina to face the Lady Gamecocks Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
