JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 24, 2006) - The ETSU women's basketball dropped a heartbreaker to Georgetown Friday night in Memorial Center 53-52. The Lady Bucs fall to 1-4 while the Hoyas improve to 3-2.

Georgetown's Brina Pollack made the first of two free-throws with 11 seconds remaining, giving the Hoyas the win and their first lead of the second half. The Lady Bucs had one final opportunity to upset the Big East foe when freshman Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) stepped to the free-throw line with four-tenths of a second left on the clock, but missed both shots.

ETSU stretched its nine-point halftime lead to 15, 46-31, when Nichelle Akers (Sumter, S.C.) nailed a jumper with 13:03 remaining in the second half. However, the largest lead of the game would quickly fade away as the Hoyas held ETSU without a field goal for the final 11:12, and closed out the game on a 17-4 run. Georgetown held the Lady Bucs to a 16.7 (4-24) shooting percentage in the second half, while the Hoyas shot 34.5 percent (10-29).

The Lady Bucs took a 36-27 lead into halftime when senior Holly Moring (Irmo, S.C.) drained a three-pointer from the corner as time expired. ETSU gained the lead by holding the Hoyas scoreless during final 4:00 minutes, closing out the half on a 12-0 run. The first half was tightly contested before the Lady Bucs went on the run as there were 11 lead changes and five ties.

ETSU was led by Evans' game-high 16 points, and junior Michele DeVault (Columbus, Ohio) finished in double figures with 12. Georgetown's Katrina Wheeler finished with a double-double as she ended with a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds.

DeVault recorded her 500^th career point by connecting on a three-pointer with 16:24 in the first half; while senior Brooke Wilhoit (Sevierville, Tenn.) recorded her 272^nd career assist, moving her ahead of Annette Culbertson (1978-81) for seventh on the all-time assist list in ETSU history.  

"We gave them the game by missing too many shots and turning the ball over down the stretch, said head coach Karen Kemp. If we didn't miss our layups and free-throws we would have won the game by eight or 10 points. However, I am proud of how our girls played defensively by holding a team from the Big East to 53 total points."

            The Lady Bucs will now embark on a five-game road trip which begins Monday night against UNC Asheville. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside the Justice Center.
