BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Feb. 22, 2008) - The ETSU women's basketball team will look to control its half-game lead in the conference standings this weekend as they close out the regular season with a three-game road test. The Lady Bucs begin the road trip with a 1 p.m. tip against Campbell Saturday inside Carter Gym.

ETSU has a lot success versus the Lady Camels in the short-lived series. The Lady Bucs have never lost in the previous five meetings, which includes a 72-53 win over Campbell back on Jan. 14 inside Memorial Center. ETSU forced a new program mark with 24 steals in the 19-point come from behind victory over the Lady Camels.

Currently, the Lady Bucs hold a slim advantage over Jacksonville atop the Atlantic Sun standings. ETSU, who is a game ahead in the win column, also grasps the tiebreaker over the Dolphins. After Saturday, the Lady Bucs have two games remaining (Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate), while JU ends the slate with three (vs. Mercer and at Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson).

About Campbell

This weekend will be the last time the Campbell women's basketball team plays inside Carter Gym. Next season the Lady Camels will play in the brand new John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center. The 30-million dollar facility will seat 3,000 spectators for athletic events and up to 5,000 for concerts, graduations and other community and regional events.

Currently the Lady Camels stand at 10-15, 5-7 in A-Sun play. Campbell holds a half-game lead over Stetson for the fifth seed in next month's A-Sun Tournament. The Lady Camels are led by senior Marlena Murphy who leads the team in scoring (12.8) and rebounding (10.0). She is the only player in the conference to be averaging a double-double. As a team, Campbell is only scoring 58.3 points per game and allowing 62.2. They enter Saturday's contest on a two-game skid and have lost four of their last six. Campbell holds a 4-6 home record.

The Series

ETSU has never lost in the prior five meetings vs. the Lady Camels. The Lady Bucs defeated Campbell, 72-53, back on Jan. 14. In that contest, ETSU trailed by two at half (26-24), but outscored Campbell by 21 in the second stanza to pull off its second conference win of the year. The Lady Bucs set a new program mark with their 24 steals, while TaRonda Wiles and Jenny Norman led the team in scoring with 16 points apiece. Sophomore Latisha Belcher also contributed in a big way, totaling 12 points, nine rebounds, five steals, three assists and three blocks in 31 minutes of work. Last season, Siarre Evans netted 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the 21-point win over Campbell in Carter Gym, 87-66. Evans also dished out four assists, and forced three steals in 28 minutes of action.

More About Monday's Win vs. Belmont...

The Lady Bucs handed Belmont its worst defeat since joining the A-Sun with the 43-point rout, and the ETSU victory was also its largest win this season ... TaRonda Wiles scored a career-high 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting ... ETSU set a new season mark with its 24 assists (Kami Phillips had six) ... the Lady Bucs poured in a season-high 13 treys and set the third highest field goal percentage (72.2) in program history ... the victory marked the first time the Lady Buccaneers posted a season sweep over Belmont and was head coach Karen Kemp's 39th Atlantic Sun victory.

Youngsters Gettin' Done

The freshmen and sophomore players are averaging 60.6 percent of the Lady Buccaneer scoring and 64.5 percent of the minutes played this season. In total, they have scored 1,159 of the 1,913 points and played in 3,371 of the 5,225 minutes.

Century Markers

For the second straight season ETSU has posted over 100 points in a ball game. On Monday, the Lady Bucs plastered 102 on Belmont, marking the first time since Nov. 21, 2006 since reaching the 100-point plateau. The Lady Bucs poured in 104 back on that date vs. Appalachian State. The 43-point victory over Belmont marked the largest win this season.

A-Sun Madness

A Lady Buccaneer win tomorrow will at least guarantee ETSU the number two seed in the 2008 Atlantic Sun Tournament, hosted by Lipscomb March 5-8. The Lady Bucs currently hold a half-game lead over Jacksonville, who stands at 10-2 in league play. The Dolphins host Kennesaw State Saturday at 1 p.m. Florida Gulf Coast sits a game back of ETSU and a half game back of JU in third (10-3) and play at Stetson.

A Look Ahead

The Lady Bucs look to avenge their 82-71 loss against Gardner-Webb on Monday night inside Paul Porter Arena. Tip is set for 7 p.m. The loss marked ETSU's lone home conference defeat and it was the most points allowed to an A-Sun foe this season.
