SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Dec. 16, 2014) – Following being a integral component of ETSU’s two wins this past week, freshman point guard Tianna Tater (Johnson City, Tenn.) has been named CRONS SoCon Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Tarter averaged 12.0 points, 6.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game in two wins against Eastern Kentucky (12/13) and Morehead State (12/15). Most recently, the guard scored 17 points – including a season-best four made three-pointers – and dished out a season-high seven assists -- in an 86-77 victory Monday at Morehead State.
Presently, the local product is second-best in the SoCon with 4.1 assists per game and also holds a 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio which, too, is second in the league. Tarter is also shooting an efficient 50 percent from the field – including 42 percent from three-point range which is third-best in the conference – and is averaging 1.5 steals per game. In total, the freshman sits in 14th-place overall in the SoCon with 11.7 points per game for the year.
This is the first Freshman of the Week honor for the ETSU newcomer.
The Bucs will be back in action in the 2014 UNCW Seahawks Hampton Inn Christmas Invitational with a matchup against host UNC Wilmington on Friday, Dec. 19, at 11:30 a.m. inside Trask Coliseum.
