Averaged double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds in ETSU’s two wins this past week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 27, 2015) – After leading the ETSU women’s basketball team to a pair of victories this past week, redshirt senior forward Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) has been selected as the Southern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Mitchell led the Bucs with a double-double average of 15.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game – including five offensive rebounds per -- in helping the Blue & Gold improve to a perfect 5-0 to begin league play. The senior shot 56 percent (14-of-25) from the field, added five steals, three assists and three blocks over the two contests.

In a 69-47 home victory over Wofford on Jan. 24, the forward posted a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds while also swiping five steals. On Monday, Jan. 26, Mitchell followed with 14 points and 12 rebounds – including setting the tone early in the paint – in a big, 72-70 SoCon road victory against Mercer.

The Georgia native currently leads the league in rebounding at 9.3 per game and is second in the conference in field goal percentage at 57 percent per contest. In addition, Mitchell continues to climb the ETSU all-time scoring list with a current total of 1,217 career points which places her 12th overall on the list.

This is the first SoCon weekly honor for Mitchell and the fourth conference weekly honor of her career dating back to ETSU in the Atlantic Sun.

The Bucs will continue SoCon play at home on Saturday when they welcome Samford to Brooks Gym at 2 p.m.
