ETSU hosts the Lady Vols for the first time since 1981

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (November 14, 2016) – The ETSU women’s basketball team and the University of Tennessee are set to square off in Johnson City for the first time since 1981 on Tuesday night as the Bucs host the Lady Vols inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

Scouting the Buccaneers
ETSU starts the season 1-0 for the third straight year after defeating Big East opponent Butler on the road, 68-59 last Friday inside Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bucs were led by junior Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) who poured in a team-high 24 points to go along with four steals and three assists.

Clutch Down the Stretch
With the game tied at 50-50 with four minutes left at Butler, ETSU outscored the Bulldogs, 17-9 to claim the 68-59 victory. In the fourth quarter alone, ETSU scored 29 points with Tarter scoring 13 of her 29 points in the quarter. Off the bench, sophomore Carley Lytton (Floyd, Va.) nailed two three-pointers for eight points in the fourth.

Never Say Never
With the Lady Vols coming in ranked 13th in the AP poll, the Bucs will have the opportunity to defeat a nationally ranked opponent for the first time in school history. The last time ETSU faced a ranked opponent came last year in Knoxville when the Bucs faced No.8 Tennessee.

Scouting the Lady Vols
Tennessee comes into Tuesday’s contest ranked 13th in the lastest AP poll after defeating James Madison and Navy last weekend. The Lady Vols have four players averaging double-digit points as junior Mercedes Russel leading the offense, averaging 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
