ASHEVILLE, N.C. (March 3, 2020) – As the ETSU men’s and women’s basketball teams begin the 2020 Southern Conference Championships at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics wants to help Buccaneers’ fans enjoy their time in Asheville, N.C., by providing the following five informational tips for this weekend.
Below are the top “Things to Know” presented by Citizens Bank.
No. 1 – The brackets for the 2020 SoCon Championships are set. For those brackets, as well as other information about special events throughout the weekend, click here to access the SoCon Tournament’s official webpage.
The women begin play Thursday at 5:45 p.m. versus UNCG, while the men open play Saturday at noon against either Samford/VMI.
No. 2 – Buccaneers’ fans that have purchased their tickets already through the ETSU athletic department can pick up their tickets at the arena will-call window in the lobby. ETSU ticket manager Brandon Hudson will be on hand to provide assistance. Fans who have yet to purchase tickets can do so by clicking here and access information from the official SoCon ticket site.
No. 3 – The Bier Garden, located less than one block from arena (46 Haywood Street), will be the official pregame and postgame gathering place for ETSU fans. Come early and leave late with your fellow Bucs and enjoy the entire SoCon Tournament experience. The ETSU spirit squad and band will come through pregame providing pep rally.
No. 4 – Public parking for the tournament will be located at multiple sites around the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville (including Rankin Garage) and throughout downtown Asheville. Click here to access a parking map.
Trolleys have also been added during the tournament from various parking locations to assist fans that might not be able to find parking in the immediate vicinity of the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville. Shuttle stops will be located in the following areas:

No. 5 – Fans unable to make it to Asheville will be able to watch every game from the men’s and women’s tournaments on ESPN+. For the ETSU men’s games, the quarterfinal and semifinal games will be broadcast on ABC Tri-Cities, courtesy of Nexstar. Monday’s championship game will be televised on ESPN. Sunday’s women’s championship game will be carried on Nexstar.
ETSUBucs.com will also provide comprehensive pregame, in-game and post-game coverage of the Buccaneers’ games at the tournament. Fans who are unable to make it to Asheville are reminded that the official watch party location for ETSU events is Wild Wing Café in Downtown Johnson City.
No. 6 – Students, your top-seeded ETSU men’s basketball team opens play in the Southern Conference Tournament this Saturday, March 7 in Asheville, N.C. Sign up to reserve your spot on the student bus by Wednesday, March 4 in the Carrier Center / SAO office located on the 2nd floor of the DP Culp Student Center.
A limited number of spots are available on a first come, first served basis. Participating students will receive free ETSU swag for the game, with breakfast on the bus and postgame snacks also provided!
The bus ride is free, thanks to a gracious sponsor, but a $10 non-refundable deposit for the tournament ticket will be required at sign up. Payment must be made with cash or ID Bucs. You must bring a valid student ID to sign up and a student-travel waiver must be signed. Thirty-five students must sign up for the bus trip by Wednesday March 4. Deposits will be refunded if 35 students do not sign up.
Departure time on Saturday will be approximately at 9:30 a.m. for the noon tip-off time. The bus will return to campus following the game.
