A Letter to Our ETSU Family
A Letter to Our ETSU Family

To the Buccaneer Family,

I hope this finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

The past several months have certainly been filled with unique challenges for us all. I am proud to report that our ETSU Buccaneers have continued to represent you in a first class manner in their preparations to return to competition. These efforts were realized in the classroom with an athletic department spring semester GPA of 3.278.  During the summer months, our student-athletes remained committed by working out remotely and on-campus per NCAA guidelines in preparation for fall competitions. Our Sports Medicine staff, Athletic Administration, the ETSU COVID-19 working group and ETSU Health have worked tirelessly with campus leadership to create protocols for the maximization of health and safety.  I could not be prouder of their efforts and the leadership of our coaching staffs and administration, which has placed ETSU Athletics in the most favorable position possible to combat this pandemic.

Earlier today, the Southern Conference announced that it will not have fall conference competition due to health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.  It is the intention to move fall sports’ regular-season competition and championships to the spring.  This difficult decision was made in the best interest of health and safety of all student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans.  In making this decision, extensive research was conducted surrounding COVID-19 resocialization parameters, NCAA mandated standards, associated financial realities, and several other factors.  ETSU Sports Medicine staff, Athletic Administration, the ETSU COVID-19 working group, and ETSU Health have worked tirelessly with campus leadership to create protocols for the maximization of health and safety.  These incredible efforts place ETSU Athletics in the most favorable position possible to combat this pandemic.

ETSU Athletics will continue to work with each of our season ticket holders, alumni, sponsors, donors, partners, students and fans as we prepare to host you again on our beautiful campus.  We ask for your continued patience as we plan and prepare for future competitions in Johnson City.  Your safe enjoyment of the Bucs will always be our focus and we look forward to sharing more detailed information as it becomes available.

In closing, I ask that you continue your tremendous support of our student-athletes now more than ever.  Your Bucs need your perseverance, your gifts, and your positivity.  These times of uncertainty are challenging without question, but our collective resolve will overcome this season of our lives. We will defeat this pandemic together and be stronger than ever before.

Stronger Together,

Scott Carter
