Head coach Karen Kemp turned to a familiar face from her 2007-08 Atlantic Sun Championship squad to fill her third assistant position. In August 2008, Kelvin Long accepted the open Lady Buccaneer assistant slot, after being a graduate manager for ETSU's first Atlantic Sun championship team.
Long, who enters his fourth season as a full-time assistant, will continue assisting with recruiting, travel coordinator, and working with the guards.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native has done an excellent job with the guard work since being brought on as an assistant. On the court, a pair of guards received A-Sun accolades as Siarre Evans and TaRonda Wiles were named Atlantic Sun co-Players of the Year in 2010. Along with those accolades, the guard tandem were also unanimous First Team All-Atlantic Sun selections, while both were tabbed to the A-Sun All-Tournament Team after capturing the Lady Bucs' third straight tournament title in March. For the second straight year, Evans was named Tournament MVP, while she also secured her second consecutive A-Sun rebounding title at the end of her senior year. Meanwhile, Wiles took home her second straight First Team All-Atlantic Sun accolade after leading the league in scoring in 2009-10.
In 2008-09, coach Long saw Evans win the A-Sun scoring and rebounding titles, while also becoming a WBCA State Farm Coaches' All-American Finalist. Evans also won her first A-Sun Player of the Year award as a junior.
"Kelvin has done a tremendous job since joining the staff," commented Kemp. "He is very eager to learn and work on new things, and has already done an outstanding job with the recruiting."
Long received his Master's in Sport Management last December and spent the previous three summers before arriving at ETSU as an AAU summer coach.
