BLACKSBURG, Va. (Sept. 16, 2022) – The ETSU women’s cross country team was led by Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Rebekah Howard (Ashland, Ky.) at Friday’s Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational, as the Buccaneer posted top-20 finishes from the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.

Schwarz, making her season debut, placed 18th among a field of 117 runners with a time of 22:34.8 on the 6K course, while Howard – who led the Bucs two weeks ago in Spartanburg – finished right behind in 19th with a mark of 22:36.4. Howard set a personal best with her 6K time on Friday in Blacksburg.

As a team, ETSU placed sixth out of 10 teams with the Bucs totaling 151 points, while Liberty swept both the team and individual titles.

Liberty won the team event by 14 points over host Virginia Tech with 30 points, and Calli Doan won the individual crown with a time of 20:59.1

Like Howard, Jessica Lord (Morristown, Tenn.) also set a personal best on the 6K course as she clocked in at 23:14.7 en route to finishing 34th.

ETSU returns to the course on Oct. 1 when the Blue and Gold head to Kentucky for the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic.
