LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2022) – Two weeks ago it was Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) finishing right ahead of Rebekah Howard (Ashland, Ky.). This Saturday, Howard flipped the script as she led the ETSU women’s cross country team at Saturday’s Live in Lou Classic, held at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville.

Howard, making the trip back to her home state, finished 45th with a time of 17:33.9 on the 5K course. Schwarz was right behind in 49th with a time of 17:38.0. Howard shattered her previous 5K record by nearly two minutes as her top time entering the race was 19:21.6, set at the season opener in Spartanburg. Likewise, Schwarz – who bested Howard by two spots at the Virginia Tech Invitational – set a PR with her prior top time being 18:22.8, set at the 2021 Covered Bridge Open.

Chanelle Kruger (Johannesburg, South Africa) made her ETSU debut on Saturday and clocked in at 18:17.2, finishing 130th in the 378-runner field.

As a team, ETSU placed 19th in the 41-team field with 522 points. The Bucs finished ahead of Marshall, Clemson, Memphis, Kentucky, Louisville, Georgia and Chattanooga.

Furman won the team event with 40 points, while West Virginia’s Ceili McCabe won the individual race with a time of 16:23.9.
